1.1 Background of the Study
Community theatre is a powerful medium for promoting events, as it combines entertainment with education to engage local audiences. In Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State, community theatre has been utilized to promote cultural festivals, health campaigns, and social initiatives. By incorporating local languages, traditions, and storytelling techniques, community theatre resonates deeply with the audience, fostering awareness and participation. According to Adebayo and Olayinka (2023), community theatre is particularly effective in rural and semi-urban areas where access to mass media may be limited. However, its potential for event promotion remains underexplored due to challenges such as limited funding, inadequate training of performers, and insufficient audience reach.
